Mediterranean deli dishes up sweet award win

A business which has grown and thrived since its origins as a very small delicatessen in Carrara 21 years ago has secured a Gold Coast Business Excellence Award.

The popular Isle of Capri-based Manolas Bros café and delicatessen had the winning recipe to secure the Retail, Wholesale and Distribution Award in September for the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.

Now owned by brothers Con and Steve Manolas, the business was originally started by their parents Angela and Jack Manolas who shared their love of Mediterranean foods with locals at a very small Delicatessen in Carrara 21 years ago.

The business moved from Carrara to Main Beach then Broadbeach where it boosted its loyal followers into a significantly larger following.

In December 2013 Manolas Bros then opened a second premises in the newly established Capri on Via Roma on the Isle of Capri. The new operation enjoyed more success than the family expected and it soon became impossible to be 'hands on' in both stores, so the Broadbeach store was sold.

Manolas Bros' continued growth was recognised at a ceremony at Griffith Business School this week when it was among 10 companies that name winners of Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for September.

The winners in the other categories were HiRUM Australasia (Mayor's Innovation GC Award), Brauer Industries (Environment and Sustainability Award), NTS (Manufacturing and Construction Award), Coast 2 Coast Earthmoving (Family Business), Artius (Health and Wellbeing), Ray White Surfers Paradise (Trades, Professions and Services), ONGC Systems (Knowledge Management and Information Technology), Kokoda Youth Foundation (Tourism, Hospitality and Events) and  All Pro Australia Engineering and Construction (Emerging Business Award) .

The awards' sponsors include City of Gold Coast, Suncorp Bank, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, OntheNet, Griffith University, Regional Development Australia Gold Coast, Pindara Private Hospital, Flight Centre Business Travel and Gold Coast Airport.

The major supporters are SMART McCann Worldgroup, KPMG, Document Solutions Australia, Consulting Hall, Regina King Photography, Jupiter's Gold Coast, Dreamweavers, Bruce Lynton BMW and Land Rover, Bond University and Gold Coast Suns.

The awards' media sponsors include the Gold Coast Bulletin, NBN Television, 92.5 Gold FM and 90.9 Sea FM.
