Dynamic Hydro blows away the competition

A Gold Coast company that has pioneered a growing sector of Australia’s earth moving industry has been honoured with another business award.

The Molendinar-headquartered Dynamic Hydro Excavations was named the winner of the Construction and Trades category of the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for May at a presentation held at the City of Gold Coast chambers this week.

Born-and-bred Gold Coast carpenter Andrew Smith started the company in 2003, with one bobcat.

Mr Smith said the company’s first big break came when it was asked to work on Gold Coast Council contracts and the company bought its first tipper truck.

Soon after Mr Smith saw his first vacuum trailer, and intrigued by the possibilities, Mr Smith built one for his business.

“While the first vacuum truck had some problems, it performed the required job well and demand for our services grew,’’ he said.

The business has since grown into the largest vacuum truck company in Australia, with more than 130 staff and 120 different pieces of plant and equipment.

Mr Smith said the company, which has five depots in Queensland and New South Wales, was now looking to introduce satellite yards throughout the country so the business could service clients nationwide.

He said the company was also looking at international opportunities.

Dynamic Hydo Excavations will now be one of only six companies that will compete for the annual Construction and Trades Awards in November.
