Business Awards Launch for 2021

A Who's Who list of Gold Coast business community enjoyed the high life at the launch of the 2021 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.

More than 70 of the Coast's leading power brokers turned up for the exclusive launch of the 2021 awards held on the rooftop of The Spot, a recently completed $20 million, eight-storey tower at Broadbeach.

Growing construction company Condev, which was named as the 2020 Gold Coast Business of the Year title, hosted the event at the building which they constructed for developer Shintaku Australia.

Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards' president Ian Cousins said the venue was perfect place for the 2021 launch.

"The awards, which are now in their 26th year, are about rewarding those business operators who are the highest achievers in their field.

"We recognise and honour businesses that innovate and excel, and nothing talks about innovation like the Gold Coast's first dog-friendly apartment tower.

Mr Cousins said 2020 had been a difficult year for Gold Coast businesses and the start of 2021 had also been challenging.

However, the committee behind the awards was committed to running the awards in recognition of the perseverance and strength of the business community.

"The awards have grown to become the region's most comprehensive and prestigious awards scheme and they are continuing to grow,'' Mr Cousins said.

"Every year the quality of the entrants becomes even more impressive, the competition to win one of the awards becomes tougher and the array of industries from which the businesses come from are increasingly diverse.

"The different sectors from where our winners now come from shows how much the Gold Coast economy has changed in the past 26 years.

"These days many of our winners and our sponsors are household names but every month we always receive one or two surprises when little known companies pop up to claim honours."

Mr Cousins said the awards had become an important part of the business calendar, so much so that they are now tied to the City of Gold Coast's procurement policy.

Entries for the first monthly awards for 2021 are due at 5.00pm on Monday, May 3.
